How to be in Law School

As my first year winds down I did some thinking. I reflected on everything I gave up in DC; the experiences I lost and the experiences I gained. I came to one conclusion... life is complicated. Law school is complicated. Would I do anything different? No. Have I learned anything? Hell yeah. It's been a tumultuous year. I've have really bad luck, confusion, frustration, loneliness, sadness, excitement, satisfaction, fulfillment, and exhaustion - sometimes all at once; sometimes in bouts of emotion. I think that's what law school prepares you for... the harsh world of lawyers, law, and legal careers... and pressure.
Nonetheless, it's been a great year. In my reflection I came up with a how-to for a first year law student. Enjoy!

Boston

I'm ashamed of how much I've neglected this blog. I honestly make an effort to post, I just never finish them. Some have said I'm a perfectionist so I blame that but then something happened that shook me to the core and I decided to break tradition and instead write a reaction to an emotional topic.

Big Summer Announcement!

Summer Plans - Part I

The summer after your first year of law school is a fickle beast. You're expected to get the best legal experience you can, and of course, any job is preferable over just taking classes... Because let's not forget, most law students have never had a full-time job of any kind. And good luck getting a reputable job your second summer if you did nothing for your resume your first summer.

That said the conundrum is that your opportunities are based on your grades from fall semester - but also based on where you want to end up, or where your biggest network is, or whose kids you babysat when you were 8, or how good you are at Pinochle. I mean, it can really be a crap shoot at times.

So where am I in this process? I may not have my entire summer plans nailed down {trust me, I'm working on it} but I did finalize at least part of the summer.

For the first part of this summer....

... And it feels so good!

So how was it, what happened, and how did I do?? Short answer... I have no idea! But here's the scoop on what happened the past 4 months. I'll fill you in with impressions and thoughts when I've had time to process it all.
